About me

Aabha Shah, MD, is a board-certified neurologist with a special interest in the acute treatment of strokes, working to bring cutting-edge treatment to her community along with the team at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. She currently serves as medical director of the hospital's stroke program, which she helped establish, and is also an attending physician and Assistant Professor of Neurology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

As a neuro-hospitalist, Dr. Shah consults with hospital inpatients who have neurological disorders, treating a variety of neurological conditions. With patients that have debilitating, and sometimes chronic disorders, her goal is to understand how to contribute to a patient's overall health using evidence-based medicine. Current research interests include the effects of thrombolysis in minor stroke, stroke and HIV infection and stroke in women.

Dr. Shah completed a Vascular Neurology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda, MD, after finishing her residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Beth Israel Medical Center, in New York. She received her medical degree from D.Y. Patil Medical College (Maharashtra University of Health Sciences) in Mumbai, India.
