About me

Elliot Dawson, MD, serves as chief of the division of neurology, director of the vascular neurology program, and director of the stroke program at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. Under his leadership, the hospital is working to expand its stroke program, with a goal to upgrade from a Primary Stroke Center to a Comprehensive Stroke Center, in accordance with regulatory requirements from MIEMSS and The Joint Commission. This designation will allow Dr. Dawson and colleagues to deliver the full-range of care for complex stroke patients including thrombolytic therapy, endovascular interventions, and open surgical procedures at Franklin Square.

Dr. Dawson currently practices as a vascular neurologist and adult neurohospitalist, primarily treating patients presenting to the emergency department and admitted to the hospital. He joined MedStar Health after serving in similar roles with a private practice in Southern California. While there, he also practiced at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, serving as medical director of both the department of neurosciences and the stroke program. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Society for Vascular and Interventional Neurology, and the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery.

In addition to his administrative leadership roles with the Stroke Program, he leads the fast-growing, subspecialty-focused outpatient Neurology practice at MedStar Franklin Square. The Neurology practice has mission to commit to our communities to provide access to the highest standard in healthcare, from one day to the next.

“Neurology is a cherished practice that allows me to offer explanations, solutions, and life-saving treatments that were not available years ago. With each patient I see, I learn about a member of our community, listen to what is most important to him or her, and determine how to meet their needs. I love that every day presents new opportunities to offer hope, promote wellness, and practice generosity.” —Dr. Elliot T. Dawson
