About me
Jennifer Ayscue, MD, is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and an assistant professor of surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Ayscue is the Regional Director of MedStar Colorectal Surgery. She is also the Vice Chief of Quality, Safety, and Outcomes for General Surgery for much of MedStar. Thus, she helps ensure patients receive the highest quality patient care in surgery.
Dr. Ayscue provides care for a wide range of simple and complex medical conditions, including anorectal disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders, and colon and rectal cancer. She leads the effort at MedStar Washington hospital Center for National Accreditation in Rectal Cancer. She is also an expert in advanced surgical techniques, such as robotic surgery. She feels fortunate to be able to help people with life-threatening or life-altering quality-of-life issues. Improving her patients' lives is what she finds most rewarding. Dr. Ayscue treats patients the way she would want her family members or friends to be treated. She considers her patients as partners in treating their health issues.
Much of Dr. Ayscue's research has focused on colorectal cancer and screening as well as fecal incontinence, and she has contributed to numerous journal articles and presentations. She participates in various MedStar Health and national colorectal surgical committees, including leadership roles in the local chapter of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Chesapeake Colorectal Society.
