About me
Kathan D. Mehta, MD, MPH, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained hematologist oncologist at MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. As a specialist in blood disorders and cancers, Dr. Mehta provides chemotherapy, immunotherapy, oral-targeted therapy, and hormonal therapy. He also is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology.
Dr. Mehta’s approach to care centers on providing patients personalized services and reliable education. He begins by ensuring that they clearly understand their cancer diagnosis. He then discusses treatment options designed to achieve the best possible medical outcomes and align with patients’ wellness goals. He also develops comprehensive healing plans that outline post-treatment expectations, side-effects management, and home-care support.
Dr. Mehta is dedicated to advancing new therapies to diagnose, treat, and prevent complex blood diseases and tumors. His research interests focus on improving current and developing future therapies to fight complex lung and genitourinary (testicular, bladder, and kidney) cancers. Referring physicians should know that he is committed to keeping them well informed about the progress of their patients who will receive evidence-based care from an experienced and multidisciplinary team of surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, dietitians, and nurse navigators.
