About me
Monique Chheda, MD, is a board-certified general medical dermatologist at MedStar Health. Dr. Chheda sees patients of all age groups and specializes in treating skin of color. Her specific clinical interests include hair loss, acne/acne scarring, hidradenitis suppurativa, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis (eczema).
Dr. Chheda utilizes a wide range of therapeutic modalities, including biologic therapies, phototherapy (light therapy), laser, and other types of cosmetic therapies. She is trained in the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for hair loss and microneedling for acne scarring and skin rejuvenation. Dr. Chheda has a special interest in the use of lasers for cosmetic and medical purposes, particularly in skin of color.
Dr. Chheda is passionate about providing high-quality dermatologic care to her patients. She is dedicated to providing vanguard treatments, including PRP for hair loss, microneedling for acne scarring, and various laser modalities to treat a wide range of dermatologic conditions. She hopes to implement these therapies at MedStar Health in the near future.
During her residency training in the inner city of Chicago, she regularly saw patients of various skin types and conducted research at the Northwestern Department of Dermatology Ethnic Skin Care Center. Prior to joining MedStar Washington Hospital Center, she was in private practice at a center that also specialized in skin of color.
Dr. Chheda received her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where she graduated with honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She then completed a three-year specialty residency training in dermatology at the University of Chicago, where she served as Chief Resident and participated in research projects pertaining to skin of color, psoriasis, and the use of lasers in hidradenitis suppurativa. She is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, where she also serves on the Young Physicians Committee.
Philosophy of Care
“My philosophy of care is to treat the entire patient, not only their condition. When creating a treatment plan, I take into consideration a patient’s lifestyle, limitations, skin and hair care practices, and co-morbidities to create a treatment plan that targets their specific needs.
“I take pride in educating my patients on their condition, all the possibilities for treatment, and their associated risks/benefits, in order to help them make informed decisions about their own healthcare.
“There is nothing more rewarding than being able to improve a patient’s quality of life in terms of their skin disease.”
