About me

Dr. Shin has a special interest in visual problems associated with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other demyelinating disorders, including optic neuritis and double vision. He sees patients with multiple sclerosis and neuro-ophthalmologic disorders at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and at MedStar Health at Chevy Chase.

A professor of Neurology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Fellow of the American Neurological Association and the American Academy of Neurology, Dr. Shin is a graduate of Yale University and received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed a neurology residency and fellowships in neuro-ophthalmology and multiple sclerosis at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Widely published in medical journals and textbooks and a frequent lecturer, Dr. Shin is dedicated to patient and staff education. He has received multiple awards and commendations for his teaching expertise and clinical excellence. Dr. Shin sees his role as providing information to MS patients who are awaiting diagnosis given the uncertainty of the condition. He is highly rated by Georgetown patients and happy to be working at one of the largest MS centers in the area, offering effective treatment options and hope.

Dr. Shin is knowledgeable and I appreciate that he has a good plan to address my MS. I do feel that I get one appointment per year and have to rush through questions and also that if I have many questions it's labeled as anxiety. Perhaps a system of more frequent appts. would help. I doubt I'm the only patient who feels this way. I'm now hesitant to ask too many questions.

  • Jun 9, 2022

I really appreciated how supportive he was in addition to his knowledge and expertise.
