Dr. Goodell attended medical school at Duke University and completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of California San Diego. After completing residency, Dr. Goodell joined the faculty of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California San Diego. In addition to her role as residency faculty, she served as Medical Director, coordinator of the OB curriculum, and taught students in all four years of the medical school curriculum. In 2000, she joined the faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Racine Family Medicine Residency. While at MCW she also completed a 2 year longitudinal primary care faculty development fellowship. She initially served as Pre-doctoral Coordinator and Medical Director and then became Program Director of the Racine residency in 2003. She remained in that role until moving to Maryland and joining the faculty here at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in January 2008.

Dr. Goodell became Vice-Chair of the Department in July 2009, and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine in September 2010. From 2009-2010 she also served as the Medical Director of the first MedStar After Hours site. She has also participated in several MedStar system initiatives including the MedStar North Primary Care Advisory Council and the Harford County Physician Advisory Committee. From 2009-2011, she was appointed by MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center to lead the institution’s team participating in the Association of Independent Academic Medical Centers National Initiative II focused on improving patient care through Graduate Medical Education. In her role as Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, she oversaw the Family Health Center’s 2011 achievement of Level III NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home status and its acceptance as one of 50 statewide practices into Maryland’s three year PCMH Pilot Program. In November 2013, Dr. Goodell was appointed to the Board of Directors of MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, and in May 2014 she was appointed to the Governance Council of MedStar Medical Group, becoming Chair of the Governing Council in 2017. In 2013, she was also named one of Baltimore Magazine’s Top Doctors in the Baltimore region. In 2015, she was appointed to the board of the MedStar Medicare Accountable Care Organization. She is also Co-Chair of the MedStar Health Primary Care Clinical Council.

On a national level, she has held several leadership roles in the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) serving as President of STFM (2016- 2017). From 2007 to 2011, Dr. Goodell was appointed to serve as a member of STFM Education Committee, and in April 2011 she was elected to a three year term as a Member-at-Large to the STFM Board of Directors. She has been appointed to several other task forces and steering committees within STFM. In 2014, she received the STFM President’s Award for her work on the organization’s Governance Task Force. She frequently presents her academic work on various topics at the regional and national level.

Dr. Goodell also holds appointments as an Associate Professor of Clinical Family Medicine at the Georgetown University Medical Center and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Outside of work, she enjoys travel, sports, and keeping tabs on her 4 young children.
