Garrett Zabala, MS
Garrett Zabala is a research specialist at the MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare. In this role, Garrett supports the center’s research and operational projects to improve healthcare safety, performance, and satisfaction by focusing on technology design. Garrett is primarily interested in the nexus of human performance and task management in high-stress, time-critical environments. His background involves the study of task switching in multi-task domains and how technology can affect a human’s ability to navigate engaging multi-task settings. Additionally, he has experience studying cognitive fatigue, workload, and human/artificial intelligence teaming using physiological measurement tools and applying human factors methods to improve various defense systems. Garrett received his Master of Science in Human Systems Engineering at Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of North Dakota. He is a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. Garrett also has his private pilot license. In his free time, he enjoys training for marathons and camping outdoors.
