Candace C. Somerville

Civic leader and events planner; appointed by President Bush to a commission on education and the President’s Advisory Council on the Arts at the Kennedy Center; chairman of two Inaugural Balls and coordinator of receptions for the Secretary of State and foreign dignitaries as well as for a state governors’ conference prior to the Inaugural.

Mrs. Somerville is a member of the Board of Trustees of Arts for the Aging, the Trust for Museum Exhibitions, and the Executive Committee for Fundraising for the Washington Home, as well as a fundraiser for the National Symphony and other charitable and cultural organizations. She was Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the International Board at The Capital Children’s Museum.

Mrs. Somerville attended the Institut de Français, Northwestern University, and Mary Washington College, and graduated from the University of Maryland.
