Daniel Powell, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist with a subspecialty in consultation-liaison psychiatry at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Based on-site at the Wound Care Center, he works directly with the limb salvage team as the designated mental health professional for their patients, seeing patients both in the hospital and in the outpatient setting. Additionally, he sees patients referred from the general psychiatry clinic.

Dr. Powell treats the full spectrum of mental health conditions, with a special focus on patients living with chronic medical illnesses and co-occurring mood and anxiety disorders. His approach begins with a comprehensive evaluation that explores both physical and mental symptoms, along with background information, in order to develop a holistic understanding of the individual and their needs. He then discusses personalized treatment options, including medication, psychotherapy, or a combination of approaches. While medication can be an important tool, Dr. Powell recognizes that for some patients, adding another medication may not align with their goals or best interests, and medication is never a requirement for receiving care from him. For patients pursuing psychotherapy, he helps identify the most appropriate therapeutic approaches and supports them in finding ongoing care resources.
