About the Provider

Dr. Munshi received her medical degree from, and completed her internship at, the K. J. Somaiya Medical College in Mumbai in 2006. During her internship, she underwent a three-month long placement at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Based upon that experience, Dr. Munshi left her native India to pursue advanced training in the United States. She spent six years at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, completing her residency at Cooper University Hospital followed by a fellowship in hematology-oncology at the Rutgers RWJ University hospital, where she was appointed Chief Fellow and was the 2014 recipient of The Melvyn H. Motolinsky Research Foundation Award. In 2015, she completed an advanced fellowship in blood and marrow transplantation at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida.
An active researcher, Dr. Munshi is interested in advancing treatments for double-hit lymphoma, transformed lymphoma, acute myeloid leukemia, graft versus host disease (GVHD) and other high-risk conditions. To date, her work has been published in The Oncologist and presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology, among others.
Dr. Munshi is a member of the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, American Academy of Clinical Research, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and American College of Physicians.
Dr. Munshi's Philosophy of Care
I take MedStar Georgetown's principle of "cura personalis" —care of the whole person to heart. In addition to providing state-of-the-art care, it's important to me to understand not only each patient's disease but also his or her religious beliefs, family relationships, social environments and the other factors that can affect someone's mindset and, in turn, treatment outcomes.  Toward that end, I strive to address patient fears and concerns and to explain the complexities of the transplant process, and the lasting impact it will have on their and their loved ones' lives. I truly believe much of the battle is won by the patient's own strength, courage and determination and try, to the best of my ability, to guide and support them through their course to a fruitful end.
