Philosophy of care

Dr. Renteria exemplifies the spirit of cura personalis that defines care here at MedStar Georgetown. This translates as “care of the whole person” and encompasses treating the patient as a whole individual with unique challenges, needs, and possibilities—not merely as a byproduct of their symptoms.

Similarly, Dr. Renteria has spent her career in service to diverse communities and believes in taking the time to understand the unique factors that impact the quality of life in each locale. For her, this is critical to working collaboratively alongside the physicians in those communities to provide the most seamless continuum of care. “Building communication is of paramount importance—with referring physicians as well as community cancer care centers,” she says. “This is how we can broaden the net of services and treatment possibilities for our patients.”
