About me
Jenna Smith, RN, FNP-BC, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner at MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. She specializes in volunteer bone-marrow and stem-cell donations that treat blood disorders, leukemia, lymphoma, and sickle cell anemia. She also is a member of the American Society of Apheresis.
Jenna’s approach to care prioritizes treating volunteer donors with respect and compassion. She begins by carefully listening to them while providing clear education about every step of the donation process. She later performs preliminary medical exams including physicals, lab work, and imaging screenings. For donors who are cleared to donate, Jenna then collects bone marrow or stem cells used to develop life-saving treatments for cancer patients.
Jenna is dedicated to ensuring the safety of bone-marrow and stem-cell donors. Her research interests include evaluating the relationship between donor blood volumes relative to stem-cell transplant outcomes. She is particularly interested in chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy – an advanced treatment that uses patients’ own blood cells to fight cancer. Referring physicians should know that Jenna is committed to providing high-quality grafts for better recipient outcomes.
Philosophy of Care
“Our comprehensive program cares for donors from across the country. They share such wonderful gifts that truly make a difference in the lives of both patients and their families. I honor these volunteers by ensuring empathetic, safe, and efficient donation experiences.”
