About me

Khalid Khan, MD, is a pediatric gastroenterologist and medical director of the Islet Cell Transplant Program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. In his dual roles, he provides medical care to both children with complex gastrointestinal diseases and disorders as well as adults and children undergoing islet cell transplant for chronic pancreatitis. Previously, Dr. Khan held similar positions with the University Medical Center in Tucson and the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, where he also worked with both systems' pediatric hospitals.

In addition to providing clinical care, Dr. Khan is an active researcher, author and presenter. His work has appeared in such peer-reviewed journals as Journal of Pediatrics, American Journal of Transplantation and Transplantation, among others. He is also the author or co-author of multiple text book chapters, and a frequent presenter at international, national and regional medical symposia and meetings.

Philosophy of Care
The principles I follow in patient care are related to the rare and unusual nature of the disorders I treat. These are uncommon problems that cannot be managed at most hospitals as they require a detailed level of knowledge, first-hand experience and expertise. As a result, most patients in my care are referred by other specialists. My approach is to interact directly with the referring specialists and the patients themselves throughout treatment, follow-up and ongoing medical management.

The provider informed us that he did not have the patient's information that the pediatricians office sent over. He stated it was not in the chart. Pediatricians office sees all of the information in the system. Provider was texting during our appointment. Our pediatrician made my child's condition sound very urgent. I felt as if this provider was not paying attention to me. I felt as if he was not listening to what I was saying.

our care has been between several providers. nobody seemed to know who had told us what. this call served to level set us against all the information and tests to do date and was helpful
