Nadia Ashai, MD

Nadia Ashai, MD is a fellowship-trained, double-board-certified medical oncologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating breast cancer at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

Dr. Ashai specializes in treating all types of breast cancer, including

  • Hormone-receptor positive breast cancer
  • Triple negative breast cancer
  • HER2 positive breast cancer
  • Early stage and metastatic breast cancer

In her clinical practice, Dr. Ashai focuses on offering the latest evidence-based treatment options to her patients.  She works in partnership with her patients and educates them about the multitude of treatment options that are now available for breast cancer, including targeted therapies and other forms of personalized medicine.

Dr. Ashai earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, followed by residency training at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She completed a fellowship in oncology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center. Before joining MedStar Health, Dr. Ashai was a member of the Breast Leadership Program at BayCare St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, FL, where she was the principal investigator for clinical trials for triple-negative breast cancer and HER2 positive breast cancer.

Dr. Ashai has a special interest in early onset breast cancer, triple negative breast cancer, HER2 positive breast cancer, and health care disparities.

Dr. Ashai’s Philosophy of Care

I offer the latest evidence-based treatment options specific to patients’ tumor biology and personal goals of care. I also offer novel treatment options in the form of clinical trials. I work collaboratively with patients to ensure we’re all on the same page when we move forward with treatment decisions, and I include patients’ support network in treatment planning whenever possible.

    I did feel a bit overwhelmed by all of the information, and I don't feel that we were able to have an effective discussion about alternatives or benefits. Meeting benefits, such as either specific survival rates or recurrence rates associated with specific treatments.
