Nicole Humphreys, CRNP, is a certified family nurse practitioner who specializes in electrophysiology at MedStar Health Cardiology in Annapolis and MedStar Health Cardiac Electrophysiology at Kent Island. She focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal heart rhythms. Her work supports people whose heartbeats have become a source of worry, disruption, or unanswered questions, including those experiencing rhythm-related conditions such as:

• Atrial fibrillation: Irregular, often fast heartbeat
• Atrial flutter: Fast rhythm in the upper heart chambers
• Bradycardia: Slower-than-normal heartbeat
• Ventricular tachycardia: Fast rhythm in the lower heart chambers
• Supraventricular tachycardia: Sudden episodes of rapid heartbeat
• Ventricular fibrillation: Life-threatening rhythm that affects pumping
• Cardiomyopathy: Disease of the heart muscle
• Syncope: Fainting or passing out
• Pacemakers and defibrillators: Devices that help control heart rhythm.

During a visit, patients are encouraged to talk through changes they have noticed in their heart rhythm, when symptoms happen, how often they occur, and what they feel like.

Nicole reviews the broader picture of a patient’s health, considering medical history, medications, test results, rhythm findings, and device information when it applies. She looks at how symptoms affect daily routines, since those details can help pinpoint the most appropriate care plan. Patients can expect clear explanations about what the findings may mean and which options may fit their needs.

Philosophy of Care

Nicole’s philosophy of care is built around partnership, empathy, and respect. She wants patients to feel comfortable asking questions and being honest about what matters to them, especially when heart rhythm care affects choices at home, work, and with family. Her role is to create space for conversation so patients can take part in their care with dignity and confidence. Nicole aims to make care feel collaborative, thoughtful, and connected to the life each patient strives to live.

Education & Training

Nicole began her nursing career after earning an associate’s degree from the College of Southern Maryland and joining MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing with family nurse practitioner training from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. That advanced training strengthened how she assesses heart rhythm conditions, from symptom discussion to selecting the right evaluation path and planning care. She has a broad view of how overall health may affect symptoms, daily activities, and long-term wellbeing. She understands the questions that can arise regarding rhythm monitoring, device management, and returning home with more confidence in what to watch for.
