Dr. Gayle Balba is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Georgetown University School of Medicine and serves as Program Director of the Medstar Health – Georgetown University Hospital Fellowship Program in Infectious Diseases. A proud triple Georgetown “Hoya”, she completed her medical school, residency and fellowship at Georgetown and has dedicated her career to training the next generation of infectious diseases specialists.

As Program Director, Dr Balba is passionate about creating a supportive, collaborative learning environment where fellows thrive clinically, academically and professionally. Her academic interests center on graduate medical education (GME), curriculum development, mentorship and leadership development. She has authored publications focused on innovative approaches to medical education, advocacy in Infectious Diseases Fellowship, and shaping the future of Infectious Diseases and serves as the Chair of the Operations Working Group for IDSA COP.

Clinically, Dr Balba specializes in HIV and viral hepatitis. She is actively involved in fellowship education through the HIV continuity clinic, outpatient ambulatory training, and inpatient infectious diseases consultative services. She is committed to ensuring every fellow receives individualized mentorship and the support needed to achieve career goals.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Balba enjoys traveling with her husband and their two children, playing tennis and spending time with her golden retrievers, Franklin & Wilson.
