Dr. Lai's focus has been on HIV medicine, the social determinants of health, and LGBTQIA+ health. However, he also has expertise and experience in general infectious disease, transplant infectious disease, and bone and hardware infections. He has spent decades counseling and educating residents to prepare them for the future with extensive experience in graduate medical education. He currently manages multiple grants through the Medstar Health Research Institute by the Ryan White Cares Act to enhance wrap around care for low-income patients living with HIV in the District of Columbia.
