William J. Gallagher, MD is the Associate Program Director and Medical Director at the MedStar Health/Georgetown-Washington Hospital Center Family Medicine Residency program. He serves as Directors of the Procedures Curriculum, PCMH Leadership Curriculum, and the program’s Wellness Champion initiative. He is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Gallagher also is the Co-Director of the Center for Diagnostic Systems Safety and the MedStar Health Research Institute. Dr. Gallagher is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University School of Medicine. He completed his Family Medicine residency at the Georgetown University-Providence Hospital program. Dr. Gallagher spent several years in private practice in California and worked in the Emergency Department at Alexandria Hospital before returning to the MedStar/Georgetown team. His areas of interest include improving the diagnostic process, diagnostic equity, leadership in medicine, sports medicine, procedures, women's cardiovascular health, and resident well-being. Dr. Gallagher met his wife during Anatomy in medical school. They have 3 children, none of whom are pursuing medicine.
