Michael C. Sachtleben is senior vice president and chief operating officer, Washington Region, MedStar Health. In this role, Sachtleben serves as strategic and operational market lead for the Washington Region, coordinating execution of MedStar Health strategic objectives while supporting day-to-day operations to deliver patient care across the region’s six hospitals including MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, MedStar Washington Hospital Center, MedStar Montgomery Hospital Center, MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital Center, and MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital including the MedStar Health Physical Therapy Network.
Previously, Sachtleben served as president of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital from 2016 to 2023. Prior to serving as president, Sachtleben served as MedStar Georgetown’s chief operating officer and executive director of the Georgetown Physician Group.
Sachtleben earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health. He also holds a certificate in leadership from Georgetown University Center for Professional Development and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and Leadership Greater Washington.
Sachtleben currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington and previously served on the boards of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of the National Capital Region, District of Columbia Hospital Association and American Hospital Association Regional Policy. Sachtleben is a current member of the Cosmos Club of Washington, D.C., and the Economic Club of Washington.
In 2019, Sachtleben received the American Hospital Association Grassroots Champion award. He also has been cited multiple times by Becker’s Hospital Review as “100 academic medical center CEOs to know.”
