About me
Jeffrey Mayer, MD, CAQSM, is a board-certified fellowship trained primary care sports medicine physician who treats athletes and active patients of all ages and skill levels. He sees patients at Waugh Chapel and MedStar Harbor Hospital. Dr. Mayer specializes in the non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, as well as medical issues that are specific to sports and exercise.
Dr. Mayer has vast experience treating athletes from a variety of sports. Currently, he is a team physician for the Baltimore Orioles (MLB); the Bowie Baysox (the Orioles’ AA affiliate); the Maryland Jockey Commission; and Arundel, Crofton, Chesapeake, Glen Burnie, Meade, North County, and Northeast high schools in Anne Arundel County. Furthermore, Dr. Mayer serves as a team physician for Mount Saint Joseph High School (class of 1999) and Archbishop Spalding High School. Dr. Mayer is also a medical consultant to the Maryland Black Bears (NAHL) and Team Maryland (the Black Bears’ EHL affiliate). Previously, he was a team physician for the Chesapeake Bayhawks (MLL) and the Washington Valor (AFL, now dissolved).
During his fellowship in primary care sports medicine at the University of Maryland Medical System, he assisted the head team physician in the medical care of the Baltimore Ravens. Furthermore, he was an assistant team physician for the University of Maryland Terrapins, the UMBC Retrievers, and Coppin State University Eagles.
Dr. Mayer received his undergraduate degree from Boston College, and earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Family Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC and was elected Chief Resident.
He was board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine in 2011 and earned the Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine in 2012.
