Edward Woo, MD

Edward Woo, MD, serves as president of MedStar Medical Group, where he is responsible for guiding the strategic growth of a fully integrated MedStar Medical Group to complement and enhance the MedStar Health Distributed Care Delivery Network. This includes advancing strategies around providers, physician practices, 40 system or regional service lines, and a robust network featuring 700 access points of care across 225 zip codes and 17 counties. Dr. Woo leads 8,000 employees, inclusive of 4,500 employed providers—making MedStar Medical Group one of the largest medical groups in the country. MedStar Medical Group sees more than three million patient visits annually.

Dr. Woo leads and facilitates a clinical, operational, and cultural model anchored in principles of engagement, integration, efficiency, effectiveness, and service excellence. Patient experience scores have improved year over year since the launch of the medical group, with nine out of ten patients consistently providing the highest rating for MedStar Medical Group providers. To facilitate a healthy workplace, MedStar Medical Group is also keenly focused on the wellbeing of the team. Hundreds of MedStar Medical Group physician experts are recognized every year in peer-selected regional “Top Doctors” surveys and more than 1,000 MedStar Medical Group providers hold faculty appointments at Georgetown University.

Previously, Dr. Woo served as vice president of Medical Operations for MedStar Medical Group and prior to that chaired MedStar Health’s vascular surgery department. He is an accomplished vascular surgeon, earning a reputation among his colleagues as a hard-working and committed leader with a vision for transformative care. Dr. Woo has published more than 100 papers and led numerous clinical trials. He is known and respected throughout the world and has lectured internationally for his expertise in vascular surgery. Dr. Woo completed his medical education, residency, and fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
