Lorraine Vinci, PsyD. is a licensed clinical psychologist in both the District of Columbia and Maryland. She is a graduate of Barry University (1990) in Miami, Florida, where she completed her Bachelor's in Science. Dr. Vinci obtained a Master's in Science degree at the Miami Institute of Psychology in 1992, and acquired her doctorate in clinical psychology at The Carlos Albizu University, also in Miami Florida in 2002. In 2001, Dr. Vinci completed her residency in physical rehabilitation and pain management at HealthSouth Sunrise Rehabilitation Hospital in Sunrise, Florida. Afterwards, she proceeded to complete a two year post-doctoral (2002-2004) fellowship in Pain Management and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Dr. Vinci has extensive experience in the area of physical rehabilitation and pain management and served as the co-director of the MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital Spinal Cord Injury& Disease Program. Dr. Vinci's areas of interest include post-traumatic stress disorder specifically, trauma associated with medical/physical conditions, injuries, and chronic pain. She has extensive experience with workers' compensation, multicultural issues, and sleep disorders.
Dr. Vinci works in assisting individuals to regain sense of control over their lives after traumatic injuries or chronic pain. She helps patients by identifying the unique needs and characteristics of the individual in order to reintegrate into the community and their lives by providing individual, team and family services to help the person attain successful reintegration to a satisfying and productive life. She works with the person in addressing issues of compliance, health behaviors, and emotional reactions to chronic or unexpected medical conditions. Dr. Vinci is a cognitive-behavioral psychotherapist and includes positive psychology, psycho-education, and mindfulness interventions and training in her work with patients.
Dr. Vinci's clinical services encompass pre-surgical assessment for spinal cord stimulator implantation and spinal surgeries, as well as opiate candidacy. She also provides services to individuals with opiate dependency and offers consultation to providers to working with persons in pain or with chronic medical conditions. In regards to pain management, Dr. Vinci has extensive experience with chronic regional pain syndrome, phantom limb pain, pelvic pain, chronic headaches, chronic back pain, and burns. Her expertise also includes spinal cord injuries and disease, amputations, orthopedic conditions, and cardiac rehabilitation. She provides education and interventions to prevent medical conditions and to avoid exacerbation of those already existing.
Dr. Vinci is fluent in both English and Spanish and accepts worker's comp insurance.
