About me
Dr. Adrienne Showler is the Section Chief of Tropical Medicine at Georgetown University Hospital. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of ill returned travelers with conditions such as malaria, dengue, zika, chikungunya, typhoid fever, travellers diarrhea, and a wide variety of parasitic infections. She dedicates herself to caring for patients with neglected tropical diseases including American Trypanosomiasis (Chagas Disease), leishmaniasis, echinococcus, filariasis (loa loa, onchocerciasis), leprosy, and strongyloides. Dr. Showler also oversees the travel medicine program, which focuses on travellers with unique health concerns (eg. pregnancy, compromised immune systems, HIV) and who have complex travel itineraries.
Dr. Showler completed her infectious disease fellowship at the University of Toronto in Canada, and a Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at the Gorgas Course in Lima, Peru. She holds a Masters in Clinical Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, did her thesis at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Showler loves to teach clinical tropical medicine and parasitology, and is very involved in education and academic research. She is a member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and International Society of Travel Medicine.
