About me
Angelis M. Vazquez Perez, MD, is a board-certified breast surgical oncologist and general surgeon at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Health at Lafayette Medical Centre. She specializes in treating breast cancer, benign breast disease, and high-risk cancer patients.
Dr. Vazquez performs various procedures, including nipple- and skin-sparing mastectomy, direct-to-implant surgeries with the plastics team, targeted lymph node dissection, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and axillary lymph node dissections. Dedicated to staying abreast of new advances and techniques, she actively promotes new opportunities and enrolls patients in trials when appropriate.
Dr. Vazquez’s clinical interests focus on high-risk populations for breast cancer. She is firmly committed to raising awareness, particularly in underserved communities. In collaboration with plastic surgeons, Dr. Vazquez also ensures her patients are well-informed and prepared for what to expect in their appearance following surgery. Passionate about improving health and cosmetic outcomes, she performs hidden-scar surgery to help patients look and feel their best after treatment. Some newer techniques she practices include nipple re-sensation technique and lymphovenous bypass in conjunction with plastic surgery.
Dr. Vazquez earned her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. She then completed a general surgery residency program at the Louisiana State University, followed by a breast surgical oncology fellowship at MedStar Health Georgetown University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center.
Recognized for her professionalism, humanism, and innovation, Dr. Vazquez is a robotics-certified surgeon, an LSU Resident Research Awards recipient, and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She also belongs to the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Vazquez is a native Spanish speaker. She loves cooking, traveling, and spending time with her adopted dog, Coco.
Philosophy of Care
“Taking care of women and their health is my passion. I recognize that many of my patients feel vulnerable, and I strive to provide a safe place for women to feel comfortable talking about their needs and where we work together on personalized solutions.
“As a Latina from Puerto Rico, I feel a special connection to the Spanish-speaking community and am inspired to help Hispanic women from all over the world.”
