About me
Brianna Boyd, WHNP-BC (she/her) is a Certified Nurse Midwife practicing at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She practices full-scope midwifery providing antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care. Additionally, she provides care in sexual and reproductive health, gynecologic health, and family planning services including preconception care. Brianna is committed to providing a client-centered model of care. She aims to focus on the unique needs of each patient that recognizes the right to self-determination in healthcare settings. She also understands that addressing the social, emotional, physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural needs, and expectations are all an important part of how healthcare is delivered and perceived by patients. She believes “to provide care we must not only LISTEN to patients, but we must also HEAR them. They are the experts on themselves and their body”.
Brianna believes that education plays a key role in healthcare delivery. It is important that the patient is educated and involved in the care delivery process to practice shared decision-making. She understands that shared decision-making means more than presenting choices and explaining the potential advantages and disadvantages of each. It is a process that requires the involvement of the midwife and the individual from beginning to end.
Brianna is a DMV native originally from Temple Hills, Maryland. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA. Brianna pursued her Master of Science in Nursing at Georgetown University. Prior to receiving her Midwifery training, Brianna worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse for two years at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The experience she gained caring for families during one of the most sacred times in the life of a birthing person sparked her interest in midwifery care.
In her free time, Brianna enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling and discovering new places/cultures, singing, and poetry.
Favorite Quote:
“In all cultures, the midwife's place is on the threshold of life, where intense human emotions, fear, hope, longing, triumph, and incredible physical power enable a new human being to emerge. Her vocation is unique”.
