About me
Dr. Rumbo is the medical director of the Pediatric Small Bowel program at MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute. She has 24 years of experience in the fields of pediatric hepatology and bowel disease. She treats patients between birth and the age of 21 and her areas of special interest and expertise include:

Dr. Rumbo earned her medical degree at National University of La Plata, School of Medicine in Buenos Aires, Argentina and completed her residency at Hospital de Niños “Sor Maria Ludovica” in La Plata, Argentina. She completed a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, nutrition, and liver diseases at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
In her professional career, Dr. Rumbo has held significant positions, including her current role as the Medical Director of the Pediatric Bowel Program at MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute. Her previous appointments at Fundación Favaloro in Argentina and Mount Sinai School of Medicine have equipped her with a wealth of clinical and academic experience. Dr. Rumbo’s leadership in these roles has been instrumental in advancing pediatric liver and intestinal transplant programs, demonstrating her ability to manage complex medical cases and lead multidisciplinary teams effectively.
Dr. Rumbo has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles on topics ranging from short bowel syndrome to immunosuppression protocols in pediatric liver transplantation. Her work has been published in prestigious journals such as JPEN (J Parenteral Enteral Nutrition) and Liver Transplantation, reflecting her commitment to advancing medical knowledge and improving patient outcomes. Her recent studies on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on intestinal rehabilitation and transplant patients highlight her ability to address contemporary challenges in her field. She is also the author of book chapters.
Dr. Rumbo is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.
Outside of her professional commitments, she dedicates her time to several enriching pursuits. She values spending quality time with her family, fostering strong relationships and creating cherished memories. Her enthusiasm for the outdoors is reflected in her passion for hiking and trekking, where she engages with nature and embraces physical challenges. Additionally, she takes great pleasure in gardening, cultivating plants, and maintaining tranquil green spaces.
