About me
Dr. Derek Bui is dual board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. He is passionate about the non-surgical evaluation and treatment of the spine and large peripheral joints. His patient-centric, non-opioid approach emphasizes reducing pain to improve function and quality of life. Dr. Bui offers a comprehensive range of fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided interventional procedures. He is committed to learning, teaching, and practicing high-quality, patient-centric medicine. Dr. Bui earned his undergraduate degree at the College of William and Mary and a master’s degree at Midwestern University. He then completed medical school at Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. He trained in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine/UCLA Medical Center/VA Greater Los Angeles Health System. Afterwards, he completed a Pain Medicine fellowship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Prior to joining MedStar, he practiced at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill as Clinical Assistant Professor. Dr. Bui has presented at national conferences, authored peer-reviewed article, and contributed to book chapters. Outside of work, he lives an active lifestyle. As a former Division I swimmer, he continues to enjoy the water and goes surfing when possible. Otherwise, you might find him mountain biking, hiking, or trying out a new restaurant.
