About me
Derek Bui, DO, is a fellowship-trained, dual board-certified physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain medicine. He provides care for patients in need of non-surgical evaluation and treatment of the spine and large peripheral joints. Through prescribing therapy, medications, and injections, he advocates for conservative, non-opioid approaches to reduce pain and help patients improve their overall function and quality of life.
Dr. Bui offers a comprehensive range of fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided interventional procedures for the most common conditions being:
- Cervical radiculopathy
- Lumbar radiculopathy

- Shoulder, hip, and knee arthritis

Dr. Bui is committed to learning, teaching, and practicing high-quality, patient-centric medicine. He earned his undergraduate degree at the College of William and Mary and a master’s degree at Midwestern University. He then completed medical school at Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Bui trained in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine/UCLA Medical Center/VA Greater Los Angeles Health System. Afterwards, he completed a Pain Medicine fellowship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Prior to joining MedStar Health, Dr. Bui practiced at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill as clinical assistant professor. He has presented at national conferences, authored peer-reviewed article, and contributed to book chapters.
Dr. Bui’s love for adventure inspired his career path. As a former Division I swimmer, he continues to enjoy being in the water and goes surfing as much as possible. He is also an avid mountain biker, hiker, and travel enthusiast, and is always open to trying new restaurants.
