Gaurav Bandi, MD, is one of the nation’s most experienced minimally invasive urologic surgeon specializing in the treatment BPH/enlarged prostate and kidney stone disease. With experience performing more than 7,500 surgical procedures, Dr. Bandi has built a practice centered on advanced technology, surgical precision, and minimally invasive treatment of even complex urologic conditions.

Comprehensive BPH management

Dr. Bandi has exceptional experience treating enlarged prostate, having performed more than 500 Aquablation procedures, 1,500 HoLEP procedures, 500 UroLift procedures, and over 1,000 TURPs. He was among the first urologists in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area to perform several advanced BPH procedures, including HoLEP, Aquablation, UroLift, iTIND, Optilume, Rezūm, and robotic simple prostatectomy. His experience enables him to tailor treatment to patients with prostates of virtually any size, including those with complex anatomy, significant obstruction, or previous prostate procedures.

Advanced Kidney Stone Care

Dr. Bandi provides comprehensive medical and surgical treatment for kidney stones, including metabolic evaluation, prevention, and advanced minimally invasive stone surgery. His expertise includes ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), and shock wave lithotripsy. He treats both routine and complex stone disease, including large stone burdens and challenging anatomy.

For both BPH and kidney stones, Dr. Bandi offers multiple treatment options and selects an approach based on each patient’s anatomy, condition, goals, and overall health.

Training and Academic Leadership

Dr. Bandi has practiced in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area since 2009. He earned his medical degree from M.G.M. Medical College, completed his internship and urology residency at Wayne State University, and completed fellowship training in minimally invasive urology, endourology, and robotic surgery at the University of Wisconsin.

He is a diplomate of the American Board of Urology and a member of the American Urological Association and Endourological Society. Dr. Bandi serves as an Associate Professor of Urology at Georgetown University, where he teaches medical students, interns, and residents. He has authored book chapters and peer-reviewed publications and has been recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Washingtonian magazine.

Patient-Centered Care

Dr. Bandi emphasizes evidence-based, individualized treatment and believes surgery should be recommended only when appropriate. His consultations focus on helping patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options, expected outcomes, and potential risks.

He also treats common urologic conditions like elevated PSA, hematuria, urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction, including performing penile implants, artificial urinary sphincters, and urinary slings.

Dr. Bandi speaks English, Gujarati, Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi. Outside medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, playing squash and pickleball, exercising, and traveling with his family.
