About me
Hira Latif, MD, is a hematologist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Latif specializes in treating patients with blood disorders, such as abnormal blood counts, bleeding and clotting disorders, hemoglobinopathies, immune thrombocytopenia, and hematological malignancies.
Dr. Latif performs diagnostic procedures, including bone marrow biopsies, and is specialty trained in intrathecal chemotherapy. She also works alongside the Infusion Center to provide patients with blood transfusions, iron infusions, chemotherapy, immunotherapy for the treatment of blood disorders and blood cancers.
Dr. Latif’s clinical and research interests include diagnosing and treating all blood and clotting disorders. Specifically, she is interested in finding effective treatments for clotting disorders in specialized populations, such as patients with kidney disease, obesity, and pregnant women. She is also involved in clinical trials investigating immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) drugs. Dr. Latif has earned awards throughout her practice, including the Humanism in Medicine Award, Thrombosis & Hemostasis Summit of North America (THSNA) 2020 Young Investigator Travel Award, and is part of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Medical Educators Institute.
Dr. Latif received her medical degree from Aga Khan University in Pakistan, where she later completed an internship in internal medicine. She then completed an additional internship in internal medicine at MedStar Washington, followed by an internal medicine residency at Jacobi Medical Center in New York City. Finally, Dr. Latif completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at MedStar Washington.
She is an active member of many professional societies, including the American Society of Hematology, the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis, the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society, and the Foundation of Women and Girl’s Blood Disorders.
Philosophy of Care
“I have a holistic approach to patient care that supports a patient’s overall well-being. I’m a patient advocate focused on partnering with patients in their medical care. I strongly believe that a multidisciplinary approach to patient care is fundamental. I use a collaborative approach when treating patients and communicate diligently with my referring physicians. I’m always available for my patients to answer their questions and address their concerns. I want patients to leave knowing that I gave my complete attention and focus to their problems. It’s important to me that I answer all of their questions to their complete satisfaction.”
