About me
Jamie Oh, MD MS is an attending surgeon at The Burn Center at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in the Division of Trauma and Burn Surgery.
Dr. Oh specializes in the care of acute burns, thermal injury to the skin, cold injuries to the skin, electrical and chemical injuries, complex wounds, and other major skin disorders that requires operations and ICU level of care.
After earning a degree in Chemistry from Amherst College, Dr. Oh gained foundational research experience at Albert Einstein School of Medicine before attending the University of Washington School of Medicine to obtain his medical degree in 2012. He completed a residency in General Surgery, including an NIH T-32 Research Fellowship in trauma and burn surgery, followed by a specialized fellowship in Burn, Trauma, and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Washington.
Dr. Oh’s interest in burn surgery stems from his research into scar formation and the genetic factors influencing hypertrophic scars. He utilized technology such as DNA sequencing and RNA sequencing to elucidate specific genes and pathways that may contribute to formation of hypertrophic scars. His work also delves into improving the quality of life for burn survivors, particularly around clinical challenges like temperature sensitivity. Dr. Oh finds the multidisciplinary teamwork required in burn care deeply rewarding and is driven to enhance care through collaboration across specialties.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Oh is passionate about medical education. As the former Chief Resident of Education in his residency program, he played an instrumental role in improving the educational experience for surgical residents. He finds mentoring the next generation of surgeons incredibly fulfilling and see it as a key part of their role in the medical community.
Philosophy of Care
“I strongly believe in the power of kindness and respect, and I hope to ensure that every patient interaction acknowledges the person behind the injury. I have confidence that this approach will foster a cohesive, compassionate team of nurses, residents, therapists, and physicians, all working together to provide the best possible care for patients on their path to recovery.”
