About me
Since 2017, Janine A. Rethy, MD, MPH, FAAP, has served as Division Chief, Community Pediatrics, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, and Professor of Pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She serves as the Medical Director of the KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic, and Director of Medical Education for Community Pediatrics, Pediatric Lead on DC Safe Babies Safe Moms, as a DC Area Health Education Center (AHEC) site director, and as the Principal Investigator on several other program and research grants.
Throughout her career, she has been committed to helping families and communities to become healthy and thrive, decreasing health disparities, and teaching the next generation of community-oriented health care providers. Special areas of expertise and focus in pediatric primary care include nutrition, early childhood health and development, adolescent health, dyadic mental health, breastfeeding medicine and asthma.
Her clinical programs and research center on holistic and integrated approach to health care by centering on families and communities, building inter-professional models, addressing social and structural determinants into the primary care setting, and optimizing health systems delivery to decrease barriers, improve access, breakdown silos along the health care continuum, and enhance clinical-community linkages.
Dr. Rethy is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, and serves in many service and leadership roles within MedStar Health, Georgetown University School of Medicine, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
About Community Pediatrics
The Division of Community Pediatrics at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital assures that all children in the D.C. area, regardless of insurance status, have access to comprehensive, coordinated and compassionate health care. Serving more than 1100 children and their families with over 3500 patient visits annually, the KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic and our school-based health clinics provide holistic integrated primary care, right in the neighborhoods that need it the most: Wards 4, 6, 7 and 8.
