About me
Jessie Blumin, CNM, WHNP-BC, IBCLC (she/her) is the Chief of Midwifery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She joined the Midwives of MedStar in 2018 as a staff midwife and feels grateful to have found a clinical home with a wonderful midwifery team.
Jessie first became fascinated by birth when she was eight years old and attended the birth of her youngest brother. She started her career in healthcare as a birth doula, where she fell in love with supporting families through labor and major life transitions. She then worked for several years as both an ER nurse and a Labor & Delivery nurse before becoming a midwife. Prior to joining Midwives of MedStar, Jessie provided full-scope midwifery care as a fellow at George Washington University Hospital. She is passionate about providing trauma-informed prenatal care, preventive care, and sexual health education.
Jessie completed a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a concentration in Gender/Sexual Studies at Haverford College before receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Johns Hopkins University. She then received a Master of Science in Midwifery and Women's Health at Georgetown University. She is also a board-certified lactation consultant and enjoys supporting people through their lactation journeys.
Jessie lives in Takoma Park with her family and two cats, Fern and Paleta. In her spare time, she loves to be with her children, hike, garden, and swim.
