About me
Jourdan Frankovich, MD, is a board-certified rheumatologist and internal medicine physician at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Her clinical interests include inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases (including lupus, scleroderma, and Sjögren’s syndrome), vasculitis, and crystal arthropathies such as gout. She does not routinely manage fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
Dr. Frankovich takes a comprehensive diagnostic approach, incorporating clinical evaluation, lab work, imaging, and, when necessary, biopsies and nerve studies. She provides long-term care for patients with chronic autoimmune and inflammatory conditions and, when appropriate, performs joint injections. She is particularly interested in women’s health in the context of rheumatology, including family planning and pregnancy counseling for patients with autoimmune diseases. Additionally, she manages osteoporosis in the setting of concurrent rheumatic illness.
Dr. Frankovich stays updated on emerging treatments and clinical developments, especially innovations that offer patients less invasive and better-tolerated options.
Before joining MedStar, Dr. Frankovich served as a Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor in Rheumatology at the University of California San Diego Health. She completed her rheumatology fellowship at Banner University Medical Center – University of Arizona, where she was Chief Fellow. Prior to that, she completed her internal medicine residency at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Frankovich earned her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School (VCU) of Medicine after completing a Post-Baccalaureate Health Sciences Certificate at the same institution. Her undergraduate studies were in economics and psychology at the University of Virginia.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Frankovich has taught and mentored students at UC San Diego, Temple, and VCU and is passionate about equitable care for diverse populations.
Philosophy of Care
“My approach is built on patient-centered care and shared decision-making. Rheumatologic conditions are chronic, and I believe in helping patients understand their diagnosis, set realistic expectations, and develop personalized treatment plans they feel confident in.
Because I treat people with chronic illnesses, it's important for me to have strong relationships with patients in the long term and be someone they can trust. I strive to be approachable, honest, and responsive to concerns so we can navigate their care as partners over time.”
