About me
Kenneth Lee, MD, is a general consultative cardiologist in private practice and Facility Managing Director at the Lafayette Center Office for MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute. He specializes in seeing patients who are at risk of cardiovascular disease in addition to individuals who have been diagnosed with hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, cardiac rhythm disturbances, heart failure, and coronary artery disease, among other cardiovascular conditions. He takes special interest in the prevention and treatment of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia.
Prior to joining MedStar Health, Dr. Lee performed complex procedures like angioplasties and cardiac catheritizations for more than 35 years in his private practice. Now, he is passionate about helping patients understand their role in their overall health and cardiovascular health and how they can prevent the development of certain cardiovascular diseases.
Dr. Lee focuses on a partnership approach with each patient and his/her family that stresses the prevention of cardiovascular disease by being proactive regarding cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes mellitus, and smoking, in addition to the management of ongoing cardiovascular issues.
After receiving his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, Dr. Lee went on to complete an internal medicine internship with the Portsmouth Naval Regional Medical Center. He then completed a residency in internal medicine with Bethesda National Naval Medical Center. Following this training, he served as White House Physician to President Ronald Reagan.
Dr. Lee served as regimental surgeon with the U.S. Marines in Okinawa, Japan, before continuing his training in cardiology. Upon his return, he completed a general cardiology fellowship and a specialty fellowship in interventional cardiology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Lee has been recognized for his excellence in patient care and has been named ‘Top Doctor’ by the Washingtonian magazine and Washington Checkbook magazine for the past 20 years.
Philosophy of Care
“There’s no one rigid approach to healthcare management -- each treatment plan has to be individualized in order to achieve the best results for each patient. My philosophy is to work with my patients to tailor treatments to their specific needs, as opposed to having them fit into a mold or a guideline of treatment.
“I take pride in my ability to explain medical terminology in a way that eliminates intimidation and helps patients obtain a clear understanding of their condition and their treatment options. It’s important to me that my patients feel as though they can approach me with questions and that they are part of the decision-making process regarding treatment, rather than feeling they are having a decision dictated to them.
“I’m fully accessible to referring physicians and do my best to communicate results as soon as I have them available.”
