About me
Michael Carrasquilla, MD, is a radiation oncologist within the Radiation Oncology department at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Carrasquilla specializes in treating genitourinary cancers, including cancers of the bladder, prostate, kidney, and testicles. Dr. Carrasquilla also specializes in the novel application of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) applied to sites throughout the body.
His areas of special expertise include:
- IMRT (intensity-modulated radiation therapy)
- SBRT (stereotactic body radiation therapy)
- Proton beam therapy
- CyberKnife®
- HDR (high dose rate) and LDR (low dose rate) brachytherapy
Dr. Carrasquilla has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals on the topics of proton beam therapy, radiosurgery, and treatment of genitourinary malignancies. He is interested in quality of life and patient outcomes research and is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology, the American College of Radiation Oncology, the Radiosurgery Society, and other professional organizations.
Dr. Carrasquilla received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed his residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
His top priority is connecting with patients and their families, maximizing outcomes, and maintaining or improving quality-of-life, both during and after treatment.
When he’s not at work, Dr. Carrasquilla enjoys spending time with his wife, playing basketball, cooking, and working out.
