About me
Salem Kim, MD, is a board-certified hematologist at the MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. As a specialist in blood disorders, Dr. Kim treats both benign hematology disorders (e.g., blood clots, anemias, thrombocytopenias, thalassemias, sickle cell disease) as well as malignant disorders (e.g., leukemias, lymphomas and multiple myeloma). Dr. Kim holds board certifications in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology. She also is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.
Dr. Kim's approach to treatment depends on her patients’ individualized care needs and she aims to work together with her patients to develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to their goals of care. She is passionate about keeping abreast of the many new treatment options available for treating blood disorders and is excited to offer them to her patients.
Dr. Kim's research interests include non-cancerous blood disorders, which despite not being life-threatening, can be as life-changing as cancer. Referring physicians should know that Dr. Kim welcomes patients with various blood disorders, irrespective of whether they are benign or malignant in nature.
Dr. Kim completed her medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Upon graduation, she completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Next, she went on to obtain a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine Bronx, NY. During her fellowship, Dr. Kim was awarded the Jacobi Medical Center Days of the Giants Award for productivity and dedication to patient care. She was also a nominee for the Jacobi Medical Center Best Teaching Fellow award.
Philosophy of Care
“I work hard to establish trust with all my patients and aim to address all their questions and concerns regarding their diagnoses and treatment plans sincerely and honestly. Many of my patients come into my office worried and scared about their disorders, and I want them to walk out feeling educated about their disease and comfortable with the treatment plan we have developed together.”
