About me
Zyad Qamer, MD, is a cardiologist with clinical expertise in general cardiology, cardio-oncology, and cardiac amyloidosis. He is board-certified in internal medicine, general cardiology, cardio-oncology, echocardiography, and cardiovascular computed tomography (CT). He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the International Cardio-Oncology Society.
Dr. Qamer practices general cardiology and cardio-oncology and treats patients for a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, including hypertension, arrhythmias, cardiovascular disease, and the intersection of cancer and heart disease. His holistic and comprehensive treatment approach utilizes the most up-to-date imaging, lifestyle changes, and evidence-based medical therapies to prevent, diagnose, and treat cardiovascular diseases.
He has particular expertise in cardio-oncology and cardiac amyloidosis, completing additional training at Washington University School of Medicine. During his training sponsored in part by the National Amyloidosis Foundation, he gained extensive experience caring for cancer patients at the Siteman Cancer Center, working closely with oncologists to prevent and manage heart conditions related to cancer therapies as well as ATTR and AL Amyloidosis. For patients with cardiac amyloidosis, he actively explores early clinical diagnosis and ensures they receive optimal, evidence-based treatment and clinical trial opportunities.
Dr. Qamer completed his medical degree and his internal medicine residency at Georgetown University Hospital, where he received multiple awards, including the Edward Tsou, M.D. Medical Humanities Award, the Kandavelan Viswalingham award for clinical excellence, and first place at the 2019 Internal Medicine Research Day. He then pursued a cardiovascular disease fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington Hospital Center, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, focusing on general cardiology, cardiac critical care, and echocardiography. Following his general cardiology training, Dr. Qamer completed a dedicated advanced fellowship in cardio-oncology and amyloidosis at the Washington University School of Medicine, sponsored by the National Amyloidosis Foundation.
After completing his advanced fellowship, Dr. Qamer stayed on as faculty at the Washington University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor within the Division of Cardiology. He had a dual appointment within the Department of Medicine and the Siteman Cancer Center. He was awarded the Charles Reiss Award for excellence in teaching by the cardiology fellows for the 2024-2025 academic year. He was also a sub-investigator for multiple amyloidosis clinical trials and helped co-direct the biannual Washington University Amyloidosis Conference.
Philosophy of Care
“It is my privilege to care for patients suffering from cardiovascular disorders and cancer. I strive to do what is best for them and their heart health to help them receive their cancer treatment. My patients know that I take the time to listen and thoroughly understand their concerns and issues.”
