Dr. Attinger received his medical degree from Yale University College of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency training at Brigham and Women's Hospital and his plastic surgery residency at New York University. In addition, Dr. Attinger completed a vascular fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and hand surgery fellowship at New York University.

Dr. Attinger's special interests include functional limb salvage, reconstruction of orthopedic cancer defects, treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, treatment of difficult wounds, including osteomyelitis and radiation injuries, treatment of ischemic wounds, functional lower limb amputations, and revision surgery. His research interests include wound-healing, implications of angiosomes, and functional amputations of the lower limb.
