Chris Richter, MD, FACEP

Vice President, Medical Operations

Chris Richter, MD, FACEP, serves as vice president of medical operations for MedStar Medical Group, where he is responsible for the fiscal and operational management of Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Critical Care, Palliative Care, Radiology, and Pathology.

Dr. Richter joined MedStar Health in January of 2019 as physician executive director for MedStar Emergency Physicians. In this role, he was responsible for coordinating emergency services across the system, overseeing emergency department finances and data production, as well as leading the integration of emergency physicians into MedStar Medical Group. In 2020, he coordinated the movement of all hospital medicine physicians into the MMG platform and organized them into a true service line. In late summer of 2020, MMG reorganized into four major “pillars” of care with Dr. Richter responsible for the hospital-based services pillar.

He came to MedStar Health from Schumacher Clinical Partners, one of the largest practice management organizations in the U.S. behind Envision and Team Health, where he served as senior vice president, group medical officer. Prior to that, Dr. Richter worked as a medical director of a number of emergency departments, and has worked in emergency medicine for health systems such as BJC, HSHS, Centura Health, and Mercy health.

Dr. Richter earned a medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine, completed post-doctoral training at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and completed a Bachelor of Science from University of Colorado. Additionally, he served as assistant professor in the department of Emergency Medicine at Washington University and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine.
