Richard Goldberg, MD
Richard Goldberg, MD, serves as president emeritus of MedStar Medical Group (MMG), providing consultative and coaching leadership for physician leaders across the MedStar Health system. Prior to that, he became the first president of MedStar Medical Group (MMG), MedStar Health’s integrated physician network, in January 2016. Under his leadership, Dr. Goldberg aligned and integrated one of the largest medical groups in the country and helped advance a mission-critical element of the MedStar Health Distributed Care Delivery network.
Before assuming this position, Dr. Goldberg served for two years as president at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital where he was responsible for the hospital’s overall strategic and operational direction including its clinical enterprise and faculty practice.
Prior to this, Dr. Goldberg spent nine years as MedStar Georgetown's chief medical officer and vice president of Medical Affairs, managing the distribution of tuition funds among clinical departments and acting as a liaison with the School of Medicine regarding the education of medical students. He also served as dean for clinical affairs and graduate medical education, as well as medical director, and chair of the Faculty Practice Group and Department of Psychiatry.
A graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine, Dr. Goldberg completed his residency at the Georgetown University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry. He received his bachelor’s degree from Hobart College in Geneva, New York and has clinical experience in general adult and geriatric psychiatry. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry. Dr. Goldberg is a current member of the American Psychosomatic Society and the Washington Psychiatric Society, and serves as an examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has authored several articles and reviews for professional journals, and is a recipient of the Society for Physician Analysts' H.P. McLaughlin Award.
