Keith T. Shiner, JD, is senior hospital counsel for MedStar Health Research Institute. In this role, he is responsible for all legal matters for MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, MedStar Harbor Hospital, and MedStar Health Research Institute, including regulatory affairs, contracts, governance, medical staff issues, and employment. At a MedStar Health system level, he supports the Physician Leadership Council; Chief Nursing Officer Council; drug diversion prevention; and quality, safety, and clinical integration matters.
Keith has been a health care lawyer since beginning his practice in 1997. Before joining MedStar Health in 2013, he was Senior Counsel for Medical Staff and Patient Care with The Johns Hopkins Health System and in private practice with regional and international law firms in Virginia. He received his law degree, magna cum laude, from Washington & Lee School of Law, where he was an editor of the Law Review, and his undergraduate degree from Duke University.
