A stroke left former personal trainer and mother of three Mikisha with expressive aphasia. Although she had normal cognitive function, she struggled to speak and could only repeat a few phrases. Our Neurologic Music Wellness program at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital, however, helped her form sentences through melodies and rhythm. Her music therapist, Dana Jacoby, used music to reconnect neuro pathways so Mikisha could communicate basic needs again. Our Neurologic Music Wellness program engages patients in therapeutic musical interventions adapted to each patient’s individual needs. We know music has the power to heal because we see it in our patients every day.

At MedStar Health, we give all our patients the best of our hearts and the best of our minds.
