Musculoskeletal Research and Innovation Center
While we have made incredible strides in our vision for orthopedic care at MedStar Health, we are also eager to begin renovations to the dedicated space at MedStar Union Memorial that will house the MedStar Health Musculoskeletal Research and Innovation Center. The Center will allow us to continue to increase our capacity in research and education, access the latest advances in orthopedic technology, and revolutionize care for patients.
The Musculoskeletal Research and Innovation Center will be a multidisciplinary research center providing:
- Education to orthopedic residents, fellows, graduate and undergraduate students
- Cutting-edge treatments and procedures through innovation
- Research applications of biologics for musculoskeletal disorders
By housing these elements of musculoskeletal study and research in one facility, this lab will become our building block of infrastructure and research excellence going forward.
With the evolution of robotic surgery, robotics will play an important role in the future of orthopedic care for decades to come. The newly renovated space will be fully equipped with the latest technological advancements in robotics and virtual laboratory training. The centerpieces of our new biomechanical testing laboratories will consist of robotic simulators. Biomechanical testing platforms will be configured with highly accurate motion analysis systems that enable researchers to quantify and compare techniques to musculoskeletal structures.
