Carol Attia, MBA, BSN, RN, is assistant vice president of Care Management for MedStar Family Choice Maryland, MedStar Health’s managed care organization. She is responsible for the implementation, integration and overall operational direction of the care management program within MedStar Family Choice. In her role, Attia is charged with organizing, directing and evaluating a clinical support system that manages member access to care, quality patient outcomes and cost. In 2009, MedStar Family Choice was the first managed care organization in Maryland to receive Accreditation With Excellence from the National Committee for Quality Assurance, and it has been recognized consistently as a leader in quality outcomes among Medicaid plans in Maryland.

Attia officially joined MedStar Family Choice in 1999, serving as director of Customer Service and then senior director of Care Management. She has more than 25 years of professional nursing experience in medical surgical nursing, critical care, pediatrics, women’s services, psychiatry, and case management.

Before joining MedStar Family Choice, Attia worked for a private psychiatric facility in Maryland as associate director of Clinical Services. Her previous experience also includes more than 15 years in a variety of clinical and leadership roles at Kennedy Krieger Institute, Sinai Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Attia is a past board member for Hearts & Homes for Youth. She has served as a court appointed special advocate for Baltimore County and a mentor for Baltimore County Department of Special Services.

Attia holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
