Overview

Athletic trainers are Nationally Board Certified, State Licensed Allied Healthcare professionals that work in a multitude of settings focused around sports medicine. It is the role of an athletic trainer to prevent, evaluate and treat injuries, provide timely referrals to the appropriate physicians, educate and communicate effectively to athletes, parents, coaches and physicians, and help facilitate a safe environment for the athlete to recover and return to play at their highest potential.

MedStar Sports Medicine carries a team of close to 50 certified athletic trainers who serve Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. In those communities, our athletic training team provides services to youth, high school, college, and professional programs. The services our athletic trainers provide to these settings are not limited to: on-field provision of medical care; rapid access to medical care; comprehensive concussion care; comprehensive pre/post-season physicals; and management and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries.

MedStar Health Certified Athletic Trainers believe in a multidisciplinary approach and team approach. They work side by side regularly with Physicians, Physical Therapists, Sports Performance and Researchers.

MedStar Health’s Athletic Training team offers a variety of positions, including but not limited to; Full Time Physician Extender/Athletic Trainer in Physicians practice, Community Liaison, and a variety of Outreach positions in traditional sports settings (i.e. professional, semi-professional, collegiate, high school, and club sports teams/organizations).  There is also the potential for unique opportunities for dual credential professionals such as Physical Therapists/Physical Therapy Assistants.

Full-Time Physician Extender/Athletic Trainer in Physicians practice:
  • Provides assessments of patients including review of pertinent medical history information, performance of specific assessments, determination of recommendations and accurately communicate and present this information to the physician.
  • Acts as a physician-patient liaison in both surgical and nonsurgical conditions in conveying concerns and information. Responsible for educating patients and ensuring that the physician's instructions/protocols are understood and adhered to by the patient.

Community Liaison:

  • Serve as liaison between MedStar Health, MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital (MedStar NRH), community organizations, parents, athletes, outside physicians, and physical therapists to enhance community relationships, solidify program growth, and provide high quality health care services.
  • Seek new business and growth opportunities for MedStar Health (contracts, schools, teams, clubs, and programs) to build the sports medicine profile, solidifying these opportunities with partnership agreements, memorandums of understanding, and contracts.

Outreach positions:

  • Demonstrates proficient implementation of acute treatment protocols based upon assessment findings and the patient's clinical presentation.
  • Provides assessments of injured athletes onsite at the training facility on an as needed basis including review of pertinent medical history information, performance of specific assessments, determination of recommendations, and accurately and timely documentation of results.

Meet Our Team

  • Kim Bosley, Director of Athletic Training Services & Head AT Ravens Cheerleaders

    Kimberly Bosley ATC, LAT, CCS serves as the Regional Director of Athletic Training and Physician Extender Services for MedStar Health. She leads a team of approximately 50 Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) who serve Maryland, DC and Virginia providing services in a multitude of setting surrounding Sports Medicine. The team services youth, high school, college, professional and semi-professional teams in traditional settings. She also created the concept and non traditional role of an Athletic Trainer as a Community Liaison, where an ATC outreaches to a community or geographic area, organization or building to create new partnerships.

    Kim is the Head Athletic Trainer to the Baltimore Ravens Cheer and Dance Team, a role she has held since 1997. She was inducted to the Inaugural Class for the Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders Hall of Fame in 2016. Kim has attended both Super Bowls with the team.

    Kim joined the MedStar Health Team in 2013 as the Coordinator of Athletic Training Services. She brought ten years of expertise in physician extending and served as the physician extender to MedStar Health’s orthopedic surgeon, James Dreese until 2020. Kim has worked to educate and expand the role of ATCs in the physician practice, an emerging practice and competitive role in the ATC world. Prior to joining the MedStar Health Team, she lead the staff of ATCs at the University of Maryland Sports Medicine and Kernan Hospital for over 18 years. While there Kim was on the front lines pushing Athletic Training services into Maryland Secondary Schools. She was an integral part of the first funded ATC program in public schools in Howard County. She served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Baltimore Bayhawks from 2001-03.

    Kim earned her bachelor’s degree at Towson State University in Physical education with a concentration in athletic training. She is eligible for certification to teach K-12 Physical Education and Health. She obtained a Certification in Dry Needling in 2017.

  • Katie Brodka, Manager of Atheltic Training Services & Physician Extender Greater Washington Area

    Katie Brodka MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2014. She is the Coordinator of Athletic Training Services and oversees the athletic trainers in the Greater Washington, D.C., region. She also works as a physician extender with sports medicine trained orthopedic surgeons Dr. Wiemi Douoguih and Dr. Carter Mitchell as well as emergency and sports medicine trained physician, Dr. B. Elizabeth Delasobera.

    Katie earned her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training in 2008 from Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) while playing lacrosse. She also obtained her graduate degree in Physical Education and Human Performance in 2010 from CCSU. She also worked as a graduate assistant responsible for men's soccer and baseball.

    Prior to joining MedStar, Katie was an assistant athletic trainer at St John's University in Queens, New York. She worked primarily with the baseball team year-round and covered women's soccer in the fall. She has a special interest in the throwing athlete, thoracic mobilization and core stabilization in pitcher's maintenance rehab, concussion awareness, and community outreach.

  • Carissa Colangelo, Manager of Athletic Training Services & Physician Therapy Assistant Greater Baltimore Area

    Carissa Colangelo MS, LAT, ATC, PTA, CSCS is currently a manager of Athletic Training Services for MedStar Health Sports Medicine. She assists the regional director of the program with oversight of the MedStar Health athletic trainers serving in the Greater Baltimore region. She began her role as a coordinator in the athletic training program in 2013. Carissa has also worked as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) at MedStar Health Physical Therapy, South Baltimore since 2009.

    Carissa graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in 2001 with her physical therapist assistant associate degree and a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training. In 2003, Carissa then graduated from Ohio University with a master's degree in Athletic Training and Higher Education. She has been a Certified Athletic Trainer since 2001 and a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant since 2002. Prior to joining MedStar in 2009, Colangelo spent six years at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania as an assistant athletic trainer and assistant clinical professor of athletic training.

    Carissa has a special interest in rehabilitation of athletes. She has treated runners with MedStar Health physical therapy since 2009 and has been active in race medicine, including medical coverage for races for several years. She is also active in Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury prevention programs and rehabilitation for return to play after an ACL tear. She is the lead athletic trainer at The Ripken Baseball Experience – Aberdeen and really enjoys working with youth athletes, especially those involved in overhead throwing sports. She is trained comprehensive concussion rehabilitation and golf medicine. Carissa is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist, TPI level 1 certified, certified in myofascial decompression and Blood Flow Restriction. Carissa enjoys her time away from work spending it with her family and embraces her role as a travel youth sport mom watching her son play competitive baseball, soccer, and golf.

  • Ryan Cisek, Coordinator of Athletic Training Services, Physician Extender Greater Baltimore Area

    Ryan Cisek, MA, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2012. He is the coordinator of athletic training services overseeing the Anne Arundel County Athletic Training Team. He is also a physician extender with the physicians of MedStar Harbor Hospital Sports Medicine and Shoulder Center: Dr. Leigh Ann Curl, Dr. Milford Marchant, and Dr. Jeffrey Mayer. Prior to this position, he was the Head Athletic Trainer at Arundel High School in Anne Arundel County for two years and then worked as a full-time physician extender in the network.

    Ryan earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Salisbury University and a graduate degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State University. His previous experience also includes The San Francisco 49ers, Stanford University football and men’s volleyball, Johns Hopkins University football and baseball, and served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Major League Lacrosse Chesapeake Bayhawks for four years. Ryan has a special interest in concussion management and education as well as lacrosse specific injuries and management. Ryan and his wife Rebecca love spending their free time taking their two daughters on fun adventures.   • Curtis Wills, Coordinator of Athletic Training Services, Community Liaison Greater Washington Area

    Curtis Wills, MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2013. He is a coordinator of athletic training services and oversees the Montgomery County Athletic Training team. Previously, he was the Head Athletic Trainer for Loyola University Club Sports. Curtis also works as a physician extender with various sports medicine physicians throughout the network.

    Curtis earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Quincy University and graduate degrees in Exercise Science from Miami University (Ohio) and California University of Pennsylvania. He also received a graduate degree in Health Administration Informatics from the University of Maryland University College and has a special interest in Health Informatics data analysis and analytics.   • Jimmy Caiola, Coordinator of Athletic Training Services, Physician Extender MedStar Health Lafayette Center

    Jimmy Caiola MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2017. He is a full time physician extender athletic trainer at the MedStar Health Lafayette Center in Washington, D.C.

    Jimmy earned his undergraduate degree in Health and Exercise Science, Athletic Training from Eastern University. He attended Long Island University, Brooklyn where he received his Master’s Degree in Advanced Athletic Training and Sports Science.

    Prior to joining MedStar, Jimmy spent three years as a faculty professor at Bethany College in Lindsburg, KS, and three years as a Head ATC for the Salina Liberty Pro indoor football team. Jimmy played lacrosse in college and with his love to travel, he has been to every state in the lower 48.

  • Megan Bapisteller, Certified Athletic Trainer, Glen Burnie High School

    Megan Bapisteller, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2012. She is the Head Athletic Trainer at Glen Burnie High School in Anne Arundel County. Megan works directly as a physician extender with Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Jeffery Mayer at MedStar Harbor Hospital Sports Medicine and Shoulder Center.

    Megan earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Salisbury University and her master’s degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Sports Psychology from the California University of Pennsylvania.

    Megan has a special interest in throwing injuries in baseball, soccer medicine, and sports psychology. Megan enjoys the fact that no two days as an athletic trainer are the same. Megan likes to spend her free time with family and friends and being on a beach or by the water is her happy place.

  • Kelsey Langham, Certified Athletic Trainer Roosevelt High School

    Kelsey Langham MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2017. She is the Head Athletic Trainer at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Prince Georges County MD. Kelsey is also a physician extender with sports medicine trained orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Col Steven Svoboda and sports medicine trained internal medicine physician, Dr. Christian Glaser.

    Kelsey obtained her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at Iowa State University. She completed her master’s degree in Athletic Training with a concentration on manual therapy techniques from Illinois State University. Prior to joining Medstar, Kelsey has had a variety of athletic training experiences. She was a collegiate athletic trainer at Morgan State University and University of Maryland. She was also a teaching assistant at Illinois State and adjunct professor at Morgan State. Kelsey has a special interest in manual therapy techniques, including the Graston Technique certification. She also has a special interest in volleyball, cheerleading and baseball/softball. Kelsey enjoy cookings, trying new recipes and new cuisines. She loves to travel and go international every other year. Her bucket list is to watch a game in every MLB park, which is halfway completed!   • Joshua Baraks, Certified Athletic Trainer, PRN

    Joshua Baracks, ATC, LAT joined MedStar Health in 2018. He is a PRN athletic trainer with the MedStar Health system. Josh completed his bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at University of Pittsburgh. Josh has completed two master’s degrees Business Administration and Management at Johns Hopkins-Carey Business School and Public Health at Johns Hopkins-Bloomberg School of Public Health. Josh strives to use his background in athletic training and research to translate innovations in health care into improving clinical practices.
  • Kim Battaglia, Certified Athletic Trainer Bowie High School

    Kim Battaglia MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2017. She is the Head Athletic Trainer at Bowie High School in Prince Georges County MD. Kim is also a physician extender with primary care sports medicine physician, Dr. Louis Kovacs.

    Kim obtained her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at Wheeling Jesuit University. She completed her master’s degree in Athletic Training from Indiana Wesleyan University. Prior to joining Medstar, Kim was an assistant athletic trainer at Bethany College in West Virginia. Kim believes that experiences help athletic trainer learn and grow so she strives to add as much experience at many different sports, events, opportunities as possible. Kim loves spending time her husband and son, and will be welcoming another son in February 2022.
  • Kelsey Boulier, Certified Athletic Trainer North County High School

    Kelsey Boulier, MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2019. She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at North County High School in Anne Arundel County. Kelsey is a physician extender with primary care sports medicine physician Dr. Matthew Sedgley.

    Kelsey earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Eastern University and her master’s degree in Exercise Science from McDaniel College Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Medstar, Nya spent several years as a collegiate athletic trainer at Cabrini University and Haverford College. She has a special interest in the role mental health plays in athletics as well as an athlete’s return to play from an injury. Kelsey is thankful for her opportunity to study abroad in Lecce, Italy during her undergraduate education.
  • Rebecca Covach, Certified Athletic Trainer Gwynn Park HS

    Rebecca Covach MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2021. She is the Head Athletic Trainer at Gwynn Park High School in Prince Georges County MD. Rebecca completed her bachelor’s degree in Biology at Millersville University. She also obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Athletic Training from West Chester University. Rebecca’s previous experience includes two years in the secondary school setting and volunteering with the Pennsylvania Special Olympics as an athletic trainer. Rebecca’s special interests include animal therapy and stress/anxiety in athletics. She loves to be outdoors and going for hikes or backpacking in her free time. To relax, she likes to read a good book.

  • Jeremy Dockter, Certified Athletic Trainer Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS

    Jeremy Dockter MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2021. He is the Head Athletic Trainer at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Montgomery County MD. He is also a physician extender with sports medicine trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Wiemi Douoguih.

    Jeremy obtained her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at University of Nebraska – Lincoln and his graduate degree in Exercise Science from Syracuse University. Prior to joining Medstar, Jeremy spent time as an assistant athletic trainer with University of Louisville Football and a seasonal assistant athletic trainer with the New England Patriots. Jeremy has numerous additional certifications, which include, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Functional Movement Screening (FMS) Level 1, Bloodflow Restricted (BFR) Rehabilitation, Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization. His special interests include post-surgical rehabilitation and return to play progression, sports performance, injury prevention through corrective exercise and joint mobilizations. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, boating, and hanging out with my girlfriend and family.   • Nya Dobbs, Certified Athletic Trainer Crofton High School

    Nya Dobbs, MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2020. She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Crofton High School in Anne Arundel County. She also works as a physician extender with sports medicine trained orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Kenneth Tepper.

    Nya earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Salisbury University and her master’s degree in Rehabilitation Science from California University of Pennsylvania Prior to joining Medstar, Nya spent several years as a collegiate athletic trainer at Loyola University (MD), Bowling Green University, and Catawba College. She has a special interest in mental health in athletes. Nya has 2 special needs cats with Wobbly Cat Syndrome named Dizzy and Klutzy.
  • Katie Foelber, Physician Extender MedStar Sports Medicine

    Katie Foelber, MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2019. She is currently a full time physician extender with Sports Medicine Trained Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. James Dreese. She is also an assistant athletic trainer at USA Lacrosse.

    Prior to joining MedStar, Katie spent 10 years in the role of Assistant Athletic Trainer for 10 years at Gettysburg College and 2 years as a physician extender with WellSpan Orthopedics in Pennsylvania. Katie earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Messiah (College) University and a master’s degree in Exercise Science from McDaniel College. Since entering that athletic training profession, Katie has had an interest in the sport of lacrosse, its growth, and the injuries related to this exciting game. Katie spends most of her free time with her husband and 2 children and have enjoyed watching their kids grow and learn.
  • Allison Gardiner, Certified Athletic Trainer Meade High School

    Allison Gardiner, MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2020. She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Meade High School in Anne Arundel County. Allison also works side by side with sports medicine trained orthopeadic surgeon, Dr. Milford Marchant.

    Allison earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Kings College and a graduate degree in Athletic training at Old Dominion University. Prior to joining Medstar, Allison spent 5 years as a secondary school athletic trainer in Norfolk, VA. She has a special interest in Athletic Training Clinical Education and pediatric sports medicine. In her free time, she likes to go walking, hiking, biking, roller blading, and camping. She has high hopes to someday hike through the Appalachian Trail.
  • Michael Goodman, Physician Extender MedStar Harbor Hospital

    Michael Goodman, MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2012. He is currently a full-time physician extender with the physicians of MedStar Harbor Hospital Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery, primarily working side by side with Dr. Leigh Ann Curl, who is the head Orthopedic Surgeon for the Baltimore Ravens. Prior to this Mike spent several years in the role of Head Athletic Trainer for 10 years in Anne Arundel County high schools.

    Michael earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Frostburg State University and a graduate degree in Athletic Training from California University of Pennsylvania. Michael has a special interest in functional movement, biomechanical analysis, basketball medicine and treating the overhead throwing athlete. Mike enjoys the outdoors, cooking, baking, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.
  • Tim Happel, Certified Athletic Trainer Howard CC

    Tim Happel, MS, ATC, LAT, NASM-PES joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2010. He is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Howard Community College (HCC). He is also serving as the Head Athletic Trainer for the USA Men’s National Sixes Lacrosse Team.

    Tim earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Towson University and a graduate degree in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention from California University of Pennsylvania. Prior to working at HCC, Tim was an Athletic Trainer at Cardinal Gibbons High school as well as Hammond High School. He also served time in the role of Head Athletic Trainer for Real Maryland FC and Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Washington Capitals preseason camps in 2008. Tim has a special interest in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention. In his free time, Tim likes to find outdoor adventures with my wife and three kids and complete in an occasional Triathlon.   • Heather Kohlbus, Certified Athletic Trainer Baltimore Blast

    Heather Kohlbus, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 1999. She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer for the Baltimore Blast. Prior to this she was the Head Athletic Trainer at North Harford High School in Harford County for 13 years. Heather also works side by side with the MedStar Health Physical Therapy teams in the Bel Air region and physician extends for sports medicine trained orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Richard Levine. She also spends her summer months providing medical coverage at The Ripken Baseball Experience in Aberdeen, MD.

    Heather earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Training/ Sports Medicine from East Stroudsburg University. Heather has a special interest in the adolescent athlete and growth plate injuries. Heather enjoys reading and believes, “If you THINK you are beaten, you are. If you THINK you dare not, you don’t.   • Kellie Loehr, Community Liaison MedStar Sports Medicine

    Kellie Loehr MS, ATC/LAT first joined MedStar Sports Medicine as a PRN Athletic Trainer in 2016 after 2 years at Towson University as the athletic trainer for women’s volleyball and softball. Currently, Kellie serves as a community liaison in the role of Head Athletic Trainer at USA Lacrosse. Prior to this she also worked for Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine for 3 years, including coverage at Loyola University of New Orleans and the New Orleans Voodoo Arena Football team.  

    Kellie earned her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from West Chester University and her master’s degree in Sports Administration from Louisiana State University. In addition to being a licensed athletic trainer, she is also Functional Movement Screen (FMS) Level I and II certified. Her special interests include lacrosse injuries and epidemiology, and emergency action planning in athletics. In her spare time, Kellie enjoys reading and spending time with my husband and 2 boys, Lucas and Mason, as well as their black lab, Beau.
  • Joe Martinez, Assistant Athletic Trainer Arundel High School

    Joe Martinez, MS, LAT, ATC joined Medstar Sports Medicine in 2016. He is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Arundel High School in Anne Arundel County MD. Joe also serves as an assistant athletic trainer with the DC Old Glory Rugby. Prior to his current role at MedStar, Joe was the Head Athletic Trainer at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr., High School was the assistant athletic trainer at The St. James, and head athletic trainer for the Washington Valor.

    Joe obtained his bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training with a minor in Psychology from Boston University. He attended West Virginia University, where he received his master’s degree in Athletic Training and George Washington University where he completed his master’s degree in Public Health. Prior to joining Medstar, Joe spent 7 years at the collegiate level covering every sport possible including Division 1 men’s and women’s rugby, football, wrestling, tennis, and men’s lacrosse. In his spare time Joe likes to go to Capitals and Nationals games, explore DC, go to breweries, and see live music.
  • Jenny Maybry, Certified Athletic Trainer Walt Whitman High School

    Jennifer Maybry LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2016. She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Walt Whitman High School in Montgomery County. She is also a physician extender to sports medicine trained emergency medicine physician, Dr. Korin Hudson and sports medicine trained orthopaedic surgeon, William Postma.

    Jenny earned her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Southeast Missouri State University. She received her master’s degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Northridge. Prior to joining MedStar Health, Jenny spent 5 years as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Georgetown University. She has also completed an internship with DC United and has worked with the DC United Youth Academy. In addition to being a licensed athletic trainer, Jenny is Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization certified. Her special interests include running medicine and concussion education, assessment and management. Jenny has been an athletic trainer in the area since 2008 working with athletes at every level and she can't imagine doing anything else. Jenny enjoys going on hikes with friends and her dog. She is also a fan of Marvel films, a great barbeque, and traveling.
  • Lauren McMillon, Certified Athletic Trainer Flowers High School

    Lauren McMillon MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2017. She is the Head Athletic Trainer at Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Prince Georges County MD. Lauren is also a physician extender with primary care sports medicine physician, Dr. Anne Rettig.

    Lauren obtained her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at Ball State University. She completed her master’s degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Rehabilitation Sciences from California University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Medstar, Lauren had several years of experience as a secondary school athletic trainer in the Baltimore Metro Region. Lauren is a certified Corrective Exercise Specialist and has a special interest in the performing arts. In her spared time she enjoys reading, researching her family history, and traveling.
  • Jenna Page, Community Liaison MedStar Sports Medicine

    Jenna Page, MEd, ATC/LAT first joined MedStar Sports Medicine as a PRN Athletic Trainer in 2017, which includes her work with the Washington Valor AFL team. Currently she is a community liaison athletic trainer for the Baltimore region. Prior to joining MedStar, Jenna was an Associate Athletic Director at Longwood University and an adjunct instructor for their CAATE athletic training education program. 

    Jenna earned her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Catawba College and her master’s degree in Athletic Training from University of Virginia. She is an American Heart Association HeartSaver instructor. Jenna’s special interests include golf and soccer medicine, community education about athletic injuries and injury prevention programs as well as developing resources to accompany those initiatives. She is also well versed in manual therapy techniques to help with injury recovery. In her time away from work, Jenna enjoys spending time with her family and friends which includes her dog, Catcher.
  • Jennifer Perrine, Certified Athletic Trainer Northwood High School

    Jennifer Perrine, LAT, ATC joined Medstar in 2017. She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Northwood High School in Montgomery County MD. Jennifer also works as a physician extender with primary care sports medicine trained physician, Dr. Jason Pothast and sports medicine trained orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Carter Mitchell.

    Her bachelor’s degree was obtained at George Mason University. Jennifer was a licensed massage therapist for 8 years and also spent 2 years in the industrial athletic training setting. Jennifer has also spent 20 years as a military member and veteran, currently serving in the Air National Guard. She enjoys studying martial arts, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with her pets.
  • Tiffany Perry, Community Liaison MedStar Sports Medicine

    Tiffany Perry, MS, LAT, ATC, PES joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2014. She is a community liaison in Prince George’s County. Prior to taking on this role, she was the Head Athletic Trainer at Walter Johnson High School in Montgomery County, MD as well as a physician extender. 

    Tiffany earned her bachelor's degree in Athletic Training at Slippery Rock University and her graduate degree in Exercise Science and Performance Enhancement at California University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining MedStar, Tiffany was employed by UPMC Sports Medicine for 6 years. She worked as a physician extender in the orthopedics department and as the Head Athletic Trainer at an inner-city high school. During the 2010 NFL season, she also served as an intern for the Pittsburgh Steelers. She is an American Heart Association HeartSaver instructor. Tiffany’s special interest include performance enhancement and youth injury prevention. Tiffany believes that you should “Be the change you wish to see in the world” – Mahatma Ghandi
  • Amber Radtke, Community Liaison Maryland Black Bears

    Amber Radtke MS, LAT, ATC, NASM-CES joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2016 after spending 4 years as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.  Amber is currently the Head Athletic Trainer for the Maryland Black Bears junior ice hockey team and is a community liaison in the Baltimore region working closely with the Baltimore Union Soccer Club. She is also currently the Head Athletic Trainer for the USA Lacrosse Women’s 6’s team. Prior to taking on these roles within MedStar Health, she was the Head Athletic Trainer at CCBC Essex.

    Amber earned her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from the University of Michigan and her master’s degree in Athletic Training at the University of Kentucky. In 2013 she was the Athletic Trainer for the Haudenosaunee National Women’s Lacrosse team during the FILA 2013 World Cup.  Amber is also a National Academy of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Specialist, Hawk grips practitioner level I and II, and American Heart Association HeartSaver instructor. Her special interests include knee rehabilitation, mental health, and emergency medicine and planning. Amber loves traveling, reading books, and selling homemade roasted almonds.
  • Melissa Read, Certified Athletic Trainer Northeast High School

    Melissa Read, MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2012. She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Northeast High School in Anne Arundel County. Melissa also works side by side with Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Jeffery Mayer at MedStar Harbor Hospital Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery.

    Melissa earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Salisbury University and a graduate degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education from McDaniel College. Roles with MATA/MAATA. Melissa has a special interest in knee injuries, ACL injury prevention, and concussions. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys spending time with my friends and family, working out/running, or traveling.
  • Gary Simpson, Certified Athletic Trainer Chesapeake High School

    Gary Simpson, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2012.  He is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Chesapeake High School in Anne Arundel County. Prior to his current role within MedStar Health, Gary was the Head Athletic Trainer for the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse. Gary works directly with Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician, Dr. Jeffery Mayer as a physician extender at MedStar Harbor Hospital Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery in Waugh Chapel. 

    Gary earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Salisbury University and completed a sports medicine internship at Duke University. In addition, Gary has a special interest in golf medicine and the throwing shoulder. 
  • Kelsey Tanler, Certified Athletic Trainer, Wise High School

    Kelsey Tanler DAT, LAT, ATC joined Medstar in 2021. She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Walter Blair High School in Montgomery County MD. She also works with the MedStar Health Research Institute Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Research team. Kelsey completed her bachelor’s degree in athletic training with a minor in adaptive physical activity at Slippery Rock University. She completed her doctorate degree in athletic training at the University of Idaho.

    Kelsey’s previous experience includes working in the secondary school setting in Montgomery County and a resident athletic trainer at the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy. Kelsey has a special interest in the military and public safety setting, as well as research. In addition, Kelsey has several additional certifications, which include Certified in Mulligan Mobilizations with Movement; Primal Reflex Release Technique; MyoKinesthetics; Utilization & Clinical Establishment of IV Access & Fluid Administration; and Total Motion Release. In her free time, Kelsey enjoys being outdoors with her German Shepherd pup, Odin. Her favorite quote would be “everyday may not be good, but there is good in everyday.”
  • Rebecca Taylor, Certified Athletic Trainer, Sherwood High School

    Rebecca Taylor, MS, LAT, ATC, PES joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2013.  She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Sherwood High School in Montgomery. In addition, she works as a physician extender with sports medicine trained orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Carter Mitchell.  Prior to joining MedStar, Becky was a secondary school athletic trainer for 8 years.

    Rebecca earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Science/Athletic Training from Lock Haven University and a graduate degree in Health Science/Health Promotion from California University of Pennsylvania. Rebecca is a certified performance enhancement specialist and has a special interest in throwing athletes and basketball medicine. In her spare time, Becky loves to spend as much time as possible with her husband Ryan, two kids Dylan and Mckenna, and their 3 dogs. She also loves to travel and have made a bucket list to see every MLB stadium.
  • Alex Temple, Certified Athletic Trainer, PRN

    Alex Temple MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2020. She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at James H. Blake High School in Montgomery County MD. Alex obtained her bachelor’s degree in Sports Management-Medicine Concentration from Coppin State University and her graduate degree in Athletic Training from West Chester University. Originally from California, Alex loves to travel and being by the water in nature.
  • John Vipperman, Certified Athletic Trainer, Magruder High School

    John Vipperman, MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2018. He is the Head Athletic Trainer at Col. Zadok Magruder High School in Montgomery County MD. John also works side by side with our sports physical therapists in Olney as well.

    He completed his bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at East Carolina University and his master’s degree in Exercise, Fitness and Health Promotion at George Mason University. John’s special interests include the rowing medicine. In his free time, he loves spending time with his two dogs, playing the guitar and exercising!
  • Brittney Wagner, Certified Athletic Trainer, Walter Johnson High School

    Brittney Wagner MS, LAT, ATC joined Medstar in 2017. She is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Walter Johnson High School in Montgomery County MD. Brittney also works as a physician extender with Sports medicine and emergency board certified physician, Dr. Alexander Kheradi.

    Brittney completed her bachelor’s degree in sports management at Coppin State University and her master’s degree in athletic training was completed at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Brittney’s previous experience includes working in the secondary school setting in Anne Arundel county and the NFL Regional Combine. She was so ala professor at Coppin state where she taught Therapeutic Exercise, Physiology of Exercise, Therapeutic Modalities, and History and Sports Governance. Brittney, a former Division I Track and Field Athlete, has a special interest include educating student athletes on injury prevention, enhancement and flexibility. She loves to travel out of the country and give back to the community through engagement and mentorship. Brittney’s favorite quote, “Are you intimidating? Or are they intimidated by you?”
  • Jodi Webb, Certified Athletic Trainer, Quince Orchard HS

    Jodi Webb, MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2015. She is the Head Athletic Trainer at Quince Orchard High School in Montgomery County MD. Jodi also works as a physician extender with sports medicine trained orthopeadic surgeon, Dr. Carter Mitchell and PM&R physician, Dr. Bryan Murtaugh at the Lafayette Centre.

    She completed her bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2009. She obtained her master’s degree in Athletic Training at West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2010. Prior to joining Medstar, she worked for a physical therapy company and was the Regional Coordinator for the Carroll County region from 2013-2015. Jodi's special interests include the throwing athlete, basketball medicine, and mental health in the athlete. In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with friends.
  • Meghan Whitehead, Certified Athletic Trainer PRN

    Meghan Whitehead MS, LAT, ATC joined MedStar Sports Medicine in 2020. She is a PRN athletic trainer within the MedStar Health system. Meg completed her bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine at High Point University. She also obtained her master’s degree in Athletic Training from California University of Pennsylvania. Meghan enjoys spending time with her husband, kids, and dogs. Her favorite quote is: “Lose your dreams and you can lose your mind.”
  • Meghan Wilkinson, Certified Athletic Trainer Old Glory DC Rugby

    Meghan L. Wilkinson, LAT, ATC, CSCS joined the MedStar Sports Medicine Team in 2013. She is currently the Athletic Trainer for Old Glory DC Rugby Club. Prior to joining the MLR team, she was the Head Athletic Trainer for Montgomery Blair High School and James H. Blake High School in Montgomery County, MD.

    Meghan earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and Exercise Science from Miami University in Ohio. Meghan’s previous experiences include George Mason Club Football, Wheeling Jesuit University (WV), and Professional Physical Therapy (NY) with outreach to St. Mary’s High School athletics and Flushing High School Football. Meghan has a special interest in working with contact sports such as youth football organizations and collegiate Rugby Clubs. he has recently expanded her knowledge in learning dry needling techniques to use on her patients. As a graduate of Montgomery County Public schools, Meghan was honored to be one of the first certified athletic trainers to serve the county.
