Carissa Colangelo

Carissa Colangelo MS, ATC/LAT, PTA, CSCS is the coordinator of Athletic Training Services for MedStar Sports Medicine. She primarily oversees the athletic trainers serving in the Greater Baltimore region. Carissa also works as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) at the MedStar NRH Harbor Hospital Sports Medicine Physical Therapy clinic. 

She graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in 2001 with her physical therapist assistant associate's degree and a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training. Carissa completed her graduate work at Ohio University, graduating in 2003 with a master's degree in athletic training and in higher education. She has been a Certified Athletic Trainer since 2001, a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant since 2002 and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) since 2003. Prior to joining MedStar in 2009, Colangelo spent six years at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and Assistant Clinical Professor of Athletic Training.

Carissa has a special interest in rehabilitation of athletes. Specifically, she has been active in research for the reduction of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injuries and rehabilitation for return to play after an ACL tear. Carissa has been involved with program development and piloting projects looking at and identifying risks factors for ACL tears and the effect of an ACL injury reduction intervention program in high school athletes. She also enjoys working with runners and rehabilitation of athletes after a concussion.
