About me
Dr. Barry S. Greene is a board-certified general surgeon and the director of bariatric surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. He specializes in robot-assisted and fluorescence-guided bariatric and foregut surgeries – particularly for morbidly obese patients who have end-stage liver, kidney, and heart diseases. Dr. Greene excels in minimally invasive revision surgeries to correct complications from previous bariatric procedures. He also is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Society of Robotic Surgery, American Hernia Society, and American College of Surgeons.
At the heart of Dr. Greene's approach to patient care is a dedication to providing compassionate and personalized services that prioritize each patient’s wellness goals. He begins by thoroughly reviewing their medical histories, actively listening to their health concerns, and openly discussing evidence-based remedies. Dr. Greene then combines detailed treatment planning, thorough surgical preparations, and innovative operative procedures to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes – low complication rates, high success rates, and stellar satisfaction.
Dr. Greene’s clinical interest in obesity treatments motivates him to explore innovative techniques and set new standards for surgery management. This passion also drives him to publish medical articles and lead clinical presentations to share knowledge with fellow professionals and contribute to future innovations.

“I welcome opportunities to listen to my patients and ensure they feel heard, supported, and confident throughout their surgical journeys.
