Ribbon cut on $2.1 million project that puts comprehensive services in one location.

OLNEY, Md— MedStar Health cut the ribbon on its newly expanded orthopedic practice at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center (MMMC) Oct. 10th, offering patients convenient, comprehensive services in one location. The new clinic, made possible in part by a $1-million state capital grant secured through the efforts of Senator Craig J. Zucker and the District 14 legislative delegation, doubles the size of the orthopedic practice, located at 18109 Prince Philip Drive, adjacent to the main hospital.

Construction on the 3,800-square-foot space was completed in four months and is open to patients.

“This investment is about more than bricks and mortar,” said Emily Briton, MMMC president and senior vice president for MedStar Health. “With more space and enhanced orthopedic services, we can care for more patients, reduce wait times, and keep high-quality specialty care close to home. We are grateful to Senator Zucker and our state delegates, Anne Kaiser, Bernice Mireku-North, and Pam Queen for their support in making this vision a reality.”

Services include joint replacement, sports medicine, hand and spine surgery, podiatry, and general orthopedics, with five full-time, board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeons and four physician assistants. Last year, the team conducted approximately 950 surgeries at MedStar Montgomery and saw 15,000 patient visits.

In addition to the orthopedic expansion, Sen. Zucker, as chair of the Senate Capital Budget Subcommittee, played a vital role in ensuring resources were directed to a number of critical health infrastructure projects at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, including renovation of the emergency department.

“Our community deserves top-tier health facilities close by,” said Sen. Zucker. “I am proud to have supported funding that strengthens our local medical capacity and enhances the entire patient experience.”
