Dr. Sean Whelton earned his bachelor of arts in English Literature at Duke University. He earned his medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine. He then completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. He completed his rheumatology fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. He has served as the medical student Internal Medicine clerkship director since 2004, and is currently an associate program director in the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
His clinical focus has been inflammatory autoimmune conditions. He treats patients with a variety of issues including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, sarcoidosis, IgG4 related disease, and vasculitis.
When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and four children.
